Anthony "Tony" Clark, 65, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM at New City Church, 5335 Midway Dr. NW, where he was a member.
Tony was born on May 16, 1959, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Arthur and Earline (Heard) Clark. As a Chicago native, he graduated from Chicago Vocational High School where he pursued his love of music as part of the Vocal Music department. He sang with the CVS Chorus, Vocal Chorale, and the Men's Chorus where he had the opportunity to perform at different events within the city. He attended Bethesda Baptist Church once again singing and where he also received Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized.
Tony first left Chicago to attend Kentucky State University in Frankfurt, KY in 1978. He majored in music again performing with the vocal ensembles and choirs who traveled as far as Canada to perform. He also became part of the KSU Marching band playing the French Horn and the trumpet. This is where he also developed his love and skill for shooting pool which took a little too much of his time (smile).
In 1979 on summer break, he met his future wife, Vickie. As they were both natives, they spent their time together attending events and exploring the city. He was united in marriage to Victoria Newman on June 28, 1980, they relocated to Iowa where she was attending the University of Iowa.
Tony began work at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic and in 1983 enlisted in the US Army Reserves where he served 6 years as an OR technician after their relocation to Cedar Rapids. He later began work as a radio broadcaster for KCCK (Kirkwood Community College) and WMT FM station. Tony later worked for KGAN Channel 2, starting as a camera operator and moving into the Production Department. He received an Associate of Arts degree in 2010 with a focus on Broadcasting. He later acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Mount Mercy University in 2014, all while requiring a heart pump for support.
Tony was an avid baseball fan with a special connection to his hometown, South Side Chicago White Sox. The only thing that got him through the last of winter was watching the baseball season begin with Spring Training. He had a love for music of all types, from jazz to gospel to rock 'n' roll. Tony volunteered as a DJ at Cedar Rapids former Black Radio Station KOJC as "TC the Too Cool Jazz Fool". He was an avid reader on all topics, with a special love of history. He enjoyed playing on the CRFC/New City church softball team and singing in the Easter choir. He loved attending his grandkids' sports and music events and spending time with his family.
Tony is survived by his wife, his children, Monique Clark (Kodjovi) and Victor Clark; his grandchildren, Maurisa, Logan(Ashlyn), Denise, Obed, Jonathan, Matieis, Rhaziah, Maria, Da'Riyah, and Xavier; aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special niece Jesse Hodges; along with other family and friends.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Yvonne Clark, and Jesse Hodges; and his grandson, Chris Arteberry.
In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made at Collins Community Credit Union to the Non-Profit, Clark Children and Family Services. The Mission of CCFS is to provide services and support to families and children in need.
