Anna B. Alger

March 27, 1914 ~ January 13, 2006

Anna Belle "Granny" Alger, 91, of Lisbon, died Friday, January 13, 2006, in Hallmark Care and Rehabilitation Center, Mount Vernon, from a brief illness. Anna was born March 27, 1914 at Spencer, the daughter of Harry and Mary Simington Strohman. She married Elmo Alger March 25, 1933 at Spencer. He passed away October 1978. Anna involved herself and her sons in 4-H and the Clay County Fair for many years. The family moved to Ostrander, Minnesota from Dickens, Iowa in 1950, where they farmed until they moved to Cedar Rapids in 1964. While living in the Cedar Rapids/Marion area, Granny worked as the salad maker at both the Town House and Roosevelt Hotels. She moved to Lisbon from Marion in 1981. Anna was a member of the Lisbon United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, and a lifetime Member of the Lisbon V.F.W. She is survived by one son, Bruce (Geraldine) of Lisbon, and one sister, Viola Roberts of Spencer. Also Surviving are twenty-two grand children, fifty-eight great children, eight great-great grand children, and four great-great grand children due this year. Preceding Anna in death were her parents; husband; four sons: Richard, Larry, Leland, Lester; twin daughters at birth; five brothers: Jerry, Elmer, Alvin, Henry, and Howard; two sisters: Hazel Batt and Mildred Duncan. Anna was an avid sports fan, especially when she could watch her grandchildren's wrestling matches and football games. Everyone who knew Anna loved her, and called her "Granny", She was warm, loving, always upbeat, and adored her family and many friends. The family will greet friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., Monday at Morgan Tribute Center, Mount Vernon. Anna's funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, at the Lisbon United Methodist Church, where friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Burial Lisbon Cemetery.   1. To the family of the Matriarch, Anna. All I can say is what a gal.. I have known Anna and even Elmo from way back in the Marion days.. We even road tripped a time or two.. she was something. I think ahead of her time. She has a wonderful family and I am sure each and every one will carry memories of that robust, busy, lady forever be in their hearts and minds. It was a pleasure to know her and she will be missed so much ..How fortunate to have had her in your lives so many many years. Candace
