Velma E. Yeater Taylor, 101, died in her Mechanicsville home Monday, January 19, 2009. Services 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Mechanicsville United Methodist Church. Friends may call Wednesday, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville. Velma is survived by her children, Beverly Weber, Mechanicsville, Lorraine Leonard, Ely, and Walter Vernon (Bonnie) of Solon, 18 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and two nieces Violet Kamerling and Donna Arthur. Preceding Velma in death were her parents Samuel Willis and Margaret Salena Haigh Yeater, a great grandson William Zerbe Jr., three brothers and three sisters, three son-in-laws, William Zerbe, Luverne Weber, and Patrick Leonard, and one daughter-in-law Janet Taylor. Velma was born August 18, 1907 in Muscatine. When she was five, she and her family moved to Cedar County. She married Walter E. Taylor, September 1, 1928 at Muscatine. He died 1984. She and her niece Margaret Kadlec decorated many homes in the Mechanicsville area. Velma was a long time member of the Mechanicsville United Methodist Church, Methodist Women and the Royal Neighbors. Velma and Walter enjoyed traveling and camping especially going to Arizona in the winter. She enjoyed crafting and sewing. In lieu of flowers and green plants, memorials in Velma's honor may be made to Hospice of Mercy and the Mechanicsville American Legion Auxiliary.
