Ruth M. Kruse

Ruth M. McQuown Kruse, 95 of Lisbon, died Saturday, May 28, 2011 in St. Luke's Hospital Cedar Rapids. Ruth's funeral will be Wednesday, at 10:30 at the Lisbon United Methodist Church by the Reverend Tom Mattson. Ruth's visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday in the chapel. Ruth will be buried in Lisbon Cemetery. Surviving Ruth is a daughter Sharon Timm, Mechanicsville, two sons: Lee (Kathi) and Brian (Bobbi) all of Lisbon, 14 grandchildren: Gerald Timm, Karen Isley, Michelle Powell, April Scott, Kristi Myer, Chiria Gipson, Brianna Sizer, Kassidy Kruse, Monikka Fuller; 12 great grandchildren: Scott Timm & Sarah Timm Walther, Ross Isley, Eric, Fran & Summer Isley, Ashlyn & Austin Scott, Lance, Luca & Levi Myer, Carson & Cameron Powell, Erasmus & Huxley Sizer, Brynnley Fuller, and two on the way; 1 great great granddaughter Alexa. Preceding Ruth in death were her parents, husband Bill, six sisters: Ellen McQuown, Ethel Card, Pearl Kadera, Annabel Johnston, Bertha Andre, and Mabel Bowers; two brothers: Clifford and James McQuown; and a son-in-law Harold Timm. Ruth was born May 2, 1916, at home in Mount Vernon, the daughter of John and Anna Burroughs McQuown. She graduated from Lisbon High School in 1935. Ruth married William Kruse on December 3, 1936 at the home of Bill's parents in Lisbon. Ruth worked at the Dinner Den Caf in Lisbon for many years. Ruth and Bill established Kruse Construction in 1945. The couple managed Midway Lanes and the Dairy Queen at the bowling alley in Mount Vernon. Ruth was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Rural Mail Carriers' Auxiliary. Ruth was Bill's right hand "man" in everything that the couple did whether it was work or play. She especially enjoyed cards and camping. Ruth was a wonderful cook and made cinnamon rolls and kolaches every Christmas for family and friends.
