Richard "Dick" D. Neal, 67 of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Mount Vernon, died Monday April 18, 2005 in his home from cancer. Ceremony of Remembering, 3:00 p.m., Saturday, at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel. Viewing 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday in the chapel. Burial in Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Surviving Dick are his wife Marilyn at home, a son Kevin and wife Lael of Iowa City, four siblings: Gary and wife Joanne of Newport Beach, California, Ken and wife Kathy of Mount Vernon, Sandy and husband Ron, Cedar Rapids, and Rusty and wife Barb of Lisbon, his mother Helen of Mount Vernon, and a sister-in-law Diana Neal. Preceding Dick in death were his father Denny, a brother Don, an uncle Howard and two aunts: Dorothy Wilson and Alberta Post. Dick was born March 13, 1938 in Cedar Rapids, the oldest son of Denny and Helen Neal. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1956. Dick married Marilyn Waterbury on May 28, 1960. He worked at Collins Radio. Dick had a life long passion for mechanics, and won many trophies drag racing his custom built '55 Chevy, El Camino, and Pontiac Tempest. He opened Neal's Automotive in 1968. He enjoyed collecting antiques and frequented auctions and antique shows. A memorial fund in Dick's honor has been established.
