Michael 'Mike' Allen Kriz, 51, left the world on Monday, February 20, 2017, the same way he entered it: early. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2017, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2017, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the funeral service. The family plans a private burial this summer. Arrangements by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
Mike's greatest pride were his two sons, Josh (Laura Logsdon) of Saint Paul, Minnesota, and Chad of Santa Cruz, California. He is survived by a large, loving family and community of friends including his beloved wife, Amy; two sons; father, Max Kriz; brother, Jeff Kriz; grandmother, Shirley Bravender; in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Born eight weeks premature on December 3, 1965, to Max and Joan (Weed) Kriz, Mike grew up with his brother, Jeff, in Waterloo, Iowa. Mike met his wife, Amy Wasek, through work at a Hy-Vee bakery where he built a successful career spanning thirty years.
Throughout his life, Mike was passionate about biking and the outdoors, Hawkeye athletics, great food, and his sweet dogs. He and Amy enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean where they explored new places and made lasting memories. He prioritized caring for family and nurturing friendships. In his two sons, Mike instilled a love of BMX racing, a strong sense of pride in hard work, and deep compassion. During his illness, Mike spent quality time with the people he loved, kept his sense of humor, and continued to make new friends with his doctors and nurses.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan; grandparents, Charles Weed, Harold Bravender, and Allen and Marion Kriz; and his beloved beagles Gus and Sugar.
In lieu of flowers, you may direct memorials to the family who will donate to Mike's favorite organizations. You may honor Mike's memory by petting your dog and going for a long bike ride.
Sad to hear . Thoughts to his family .
I only saw Mike a few times over the years, but I/we live next to Max and Jeff. We send our sincere condolences to the entire Kriz Family and pray that in Mike’s passing, you all find a sense of peace, unity and love, especially for each other. May you find comfort and strength in the days/months ahead. Blessings to you, Marsha & Isaiah
I grew up with Mike on Lorraine Avenue in Waterloo. He always had such a kind spirit and a gentle heart; everyone liked him. As part of the “Lorraine Avenue gang”, we all played together and learned to tackle life’s ups and downs as we grew up together. He was a sweet soul and will be genuinely missed. Lots of prayers and love go out to Jeff, Max, and his whole family.

Mike was one of the best people that I ever knew. I can still hear him saying “turn you’re hearing aid off and get to work.” He was there for me at the lowest point in my life and he was never anything less then encouraging. I love this man, I’m gonna miss you big guy.
