George C. Offen 86, formerly of Woodbridge and Partlow, Virginia, died of cancer Wednesday December 20, 2006 in Garnett Place, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Private services were held for the family. Burial will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery, Keokuk, Iowa at a later date. Survivors include: his wife Annie M. of Cedar Rapids; a daughter Leslie O. DeSpain of Safford, Arizona; two sons: Tommy R. of Lees Summit, Missouri, Jimmy K. of Martelle, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren. Preceding George in death was his sister Marieta Martin of Kansas City, Kansas. He was born May 5, 1920 at Topeka, Kansas, the son of George Frederick and Katherine Pfeifer Offen. George graduated from Wyondott High School in Kansas City, Kansas in 1938. He married Annie Manson on December 2, 1943 in Kansas City, Kansas. George joined the U.S. Navy, serving in the submarine corps during World War II. After military service he lived in Virginia for fifty-three years. He was a member of the Henry Knoxfield Lodge #49 A.F. & A.M. of Alexandria, Virginia and the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #59 of Woodbridge, Virginia.
