Gail leaves behind her beloved significant other of 18 years, Paul Tillman; special nieces, Ericia Williams and Mackenzie Maddox; sister-in-law, Kathy Maddox; aunts, Gwendora Williams, Beulah (Keith) Brown, Althea (Wayne) Motley, Mary (Edward) Harris, and Carolyn (Edward) Mohn; uncles, Donald Williams, Darell (Arlethia) Williams, and Willie B. (Thelma) Williams; a plethora of special cousins; many close friends; and loving kids in the community that knew her as Ms. Gail.
Gail was born May 3, 1964, in Cedar Rapids, to Thomas and Aleatha (Williams) Maddox. She attended Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, and Hamilton Business College, graduating with a criminal justice degree. A matriarch of bettering the lives of kids, she worked many years as a counselor, coach, and juvenile justice mediator. She worked for To the Rescue, Jane Boyd House, Metro High School, Summer Youth Coalition, McKinley Middle School, and most recently, Four Oaks. She was an all-around wonder woman. Gail was a humble person, but was greatly appreciated for the work she did with local kids, who frequently approached her around town to thank her and share their stories.
She enjoyed going to the casino, fishing, Paul's cooking, and traveling to visit family, especially many trips taken to Tennessee.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James 'Chicken'; and aunt, Dennia.
Condolences to the Maddox family. I have such warm memories of both Gail and Chicken from Jane Boyd as a little kid and Gail as a basketball coach after that. She was a gentle and beautiful soul.

I meet Gail as a classmate in high school at Washington HS. We are proud to have her a part of our Class of 1982.
She was our oldest daughter’s coach at Jane Boyd. She was a McKinley M.S. working as part of the staff for at least two of or children.
We learned about her entering hospice on her 54th birthday. She passed away on my 54th birthday.
The Tucker family wishes her friends, family and classmates peace, as we celebrate Gail and the smiles, joy and love her life shared with us.
RIP Gail 😉
Ms.Gail was my favorite person at McKinley I remember she used to always say Ms Clark get to class I still can’t believe she’s gone.
What a loss of such a good friend to all of us. She made Cedar Rapids a better place. Her memory will live with us forever. Sympathy to her family and many friends.
I am so happy and proud to say that Gail has been a friend since 7th grade. We stayed in touch throughout the years and it was ALWAYS a pleasure to be around her. She had a smile that would light up a room and a laugh that would turn heads! She will certainly be missed in the community. My sympathy to Paul (who did a great job taking care of Miss Gail) and her entire family.
So many thoughts of Gail and all the memories particularly while working with her at Metro High School. Gail gave lots of love to all. We had lots of laughs too. Prayers and love to her family.
Gail was a mentor to many. She will be deeply missed. My prayers and thoughts are with her and her family.
Gail we spent many a summer at Jane Boyd as player and coach. Always positive and willing to give 100%. Rest now and enjoy your family you earned your wings.

Gail’s ability to find ways to connect with kids and family’s will be greatly missed Even with the toughest situations her outlook was infectious and translated too anyone that was lucky enough to cross path with her. The effect she had on the community was apparent when going anywhere in public with Gail meant planning for a extra 20 minutes of her running into people she knew from Metro, the Y or a school she worked out. I will miss her strength and determination. Thought I’m happy she’s no longer in the pain she’d been recently feeling, I’m crushed by the pain of her absence
Gail, you touched many lives and your legacy will live on in those you mentored, coached and inspired. You left an indelible mark on our community. Rest well.
Gail and I first met back in the early 70’s and became best of friends. She was such a loving, funny person to be around and I always enjoyed our friendship – occasionally running into each other and sharing memories. She was a wonderful person and will be missed by so many- my condolences to the family -your are in my thoughts and prayers.
My cousin Gail had a beautiful smile. I can remember all of the summer times when they use to come and visit us in Chicago, Illinois. Nothing but fun times.
I have always loved me some Gail, Aunt Letha Mae, Chicken and my Uncle Tom.
Gail, you will be missed. I love you and RIH.
You were the best friend and coach and You were like a mom to me
