Anna Marek

Anna J. Fousek Marek, 95, of Marion, formerly of Lisbon, died Monday, March 15, 2004, at Winslow House Care Center, from a brief illness. Funeral services for Anna will be 12:00 noon. Thursday at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices Mount Vernon Chapel by the Reverend David Ambrosy. The family will greet friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel. Anna will be buried in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Prairieburg. Surviving Anna are her children: Gladys Clark Jones of Lisbon, Levona (Leo) LaGrange of Cedar Rapids, Elmer (Pat) Marek of Henderson, Nevada, Dolores (Hans) van Geenen of The Netherlands, Don (Edna) Marek of Central City, Virgil (Theresa) Marek of Belle Plaine, Karen (Dan) Konen of Cedar Rapids, and Larry (Pat) Balster of Cedar Rapids; two sisters: Emma Zinkula of Mt. Vernon and Mary Florance Smith of Olin. Preceding Anna in death were her husband Albert, five sisters: Levona Lawrence, Mary Hilderbrand, Wilma Marek, Agnes McDonell, Gladys Herbert; and a brother Mike Fousek. Anna was born December 12, 1908 at rural Prairieburg, the daughter of Wesley John and Emma Elizabeth Lawrence Fousek. She married Albert Marek June 15, 1926 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Prairieburg. Albert passed away August 20, 1983. Anna and Albert farmed in the Coggon and Central City areas until retirement and moved to Lisbon in 1969. Anna was a cook for Joannie's Caf at Lisbon, and enjoyed the social relationship among the public. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church at Mount Vernon. Anna's joy was spending time with her family. She treasured her nineteen grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
