Douglas “Doug” Havlik
August 27, 1937 ~ September 21, 2026
Douglas Laverne Havlik, 89, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Doug was born on August 27, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Laverne Havlik and Josephine (Sturm) Hendrix. He was married to Helen (Loomer) Havlik on December 14, 1957, with whom he had two children, Teresa and Brett. Helen passed away on September 30, 1985. On May 16, 1987, Doug married Mildred Northcott, his wife of 39 years.
Doug worked at Suburban Lumber Company for over 30 years. He had a passion for fast-pitch softball and was a talented member of multiple local teams. Doug’s softball accomplishments include helping lead team Welty Way to the 1971 Amateur Softball Association (ASA) National Championship. He subsequently represented the United States at the ASA World Tournament in the Philippines, earning a silver medal. In recognition of his contributions to the sport, Doug was inducted into the Cedar Rapids Softball Hall of Fame. After his playing days were behind him, Doug embraced his role as Papa, dedicating much of his time to his grandchildren.
Doug is survived by his wife, Mildred Havlik; children, Teresa Stolba, Brett (Elma) Havlik, Patrick (Brenda) Sullivan, and Molly (Ron) Rausch; grandchildren, Ashley (Brian), Kaitlin (Tony), Jared, Justin (Meredith), Cameron, Caroline, Nick (Harmany), Corryn, Melissa, Chloe, Claire, Charlotte, and Crosby; great-grandchildren, Hadley and Nathaniel; sister, Sally (Ray) Gudenkauf; and many nieces and nephews.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Helen Havlik; sister, Kathy Wisnousky; son-in-law, Kary Stolba; and brother-in-law, William Northcott.

The softball world lost a special person with the passing of Doug Havlik–not only was he a great softball player, he was a special person who always had a smile on his face and was fun to be around.
I know Frank really enjoyed their friendship and was happy to be able to play with him over the years.
Condolences to Teresa and Brett, Doug was like a second father to me through his softball days. I can’t say enough nice things about him – just an incredible person!!
Milly & family, I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of Doug. I worked with Doug for years at the old Suburban Lumber Yard. He was such a good guy, always caring towards others. I enjoyed his visits to Suburban after his retirement. He was a wonderful man & he will be missed. Will be thinking of you. Take Care Milly.
