Jeanette DeWitt

Jeanette Rose DeWitt, 78, passed away peacefully at Hallmark Care Center in Mount Vernon, IA on Friday, August 28,2026. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services in Mount Vernon, followed by a Memorial Service at 5:30 p.m.

Jeanette was born on May 18, 1948, in Maquoketa, Iowa, daughter to Lucian and Wilma (Yarolem) Bearce. She was deeply devoted to her family and cherished the time she spent with them and her relationship with God.

Jeanette was known for her wonderful sense of humor, always bringing a smile and laughter to those around her. She would never miss a family gathering knowing she’d get a chance to be around those she loved the most. She was a kind and gentle soul.

Jeanette loved dancing, music, gardening, flowers, playing cards, and bowling. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing volleyball and swimming. Jeanette had a special place in her heart for children and was a nanny for many years. Later in life when Ray and Jeanette were married, they could often be found at the local fishing hole or planning their next adventure. Most importantly, she treasured attending her children’s and grandchildren’s events, always proud to support and cheer them on.

Jeanette is survived by her children, Jeanne (Brian) Squires, John Novotny, and Jeff (Sara) Novotny; grandchildren, Jordan Forbes, Cade Forbes, and Petra Novotny; and siblings, Phyllis Phillips, Stan McGaffee, Janice Larison, Connie Jacobson.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond DeWitt; and brothers, Larry McGaffee and Dean Bearce.
