Evett Unzicker-Schierholz, 74, formerly of Mount Vernon, Iowa, passed away on August 22, 2026, at Life Care Center of Gray, Gray, Tennessee. Evett will be laid to rest at Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2026. The family is being cared for by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon.
Evett was born on February 12, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, daughter of Robert “Bob” and Evaue (Conklin) Unzicker. Evett’s life was centered around her love for her animals, especially her dogs and horses. In her younger years, she won many blue ribbons in shows and parades with her favorite horse, Baske. She especially cherished the time she spent with her father, creating memories that she held dear throughout her life.
Evett is survived by her daughter, Crystal (Charles) Strickland; eight grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Robert McCormick Jr., Gary Patrick, and Bob Schierholz; and brothers, Dennis Franke and Keith Unzicker.

Evett was a friend of my mother’s. I remember her as a sweet gentle soul who loved her horses dearly. She was always very kind to us. Rest easy, Evett, You will be missed.
Evett and her family were neighbors for many years on Mt. Vernon’s far west edge. Always of good energy and friendliness. She and her family are well-remembered. My condolences to Crystal and her children.
