Susan "Sue" Tietz

Susan Tietz, 72, of West Branch, Iowa, passed away on July 28, 2026, at the Oldorf Hospice House, Hiawatha. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon, Iowa. Funeral will be at 12:00 p.m. followed by a graveside committal at Lisbon Cemetery.
Sue was born September 24, 1953, in Waterloo, Iowa, daughter to Jerome and Florence (Miller) Micka. Sue graduated from the University of Iowa in 1975 and worked for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as a recreational therapist. She was united in marriage to William Tietz at All Saints Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on October 26, 1985.
Sue was a gifted artist whose creativity was reflected in both her original works and was commissioned to paint portraits of several past presidents at the University of Iowa. She shared her love of music as a member of the singing group The Chameleons and enjoyed playing the guitar. Sue also found great joy in gardening and had a special love for dogs and horses.
Sue is survived by her husband, William Tietz; siblings, Michael (Diane) Micka, Betty (Chris) Micka-Rolwes, and Carol (Greg) Johnson; brother-in-law, Gary Franck; many nieces and nephews; dogs, Rudolph and Bismark; and two Arabian horses.
Memorials may be made to the family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Mary Franck.

I had the privilege of working with Sue on the transplant unit. What a pure joy of a person she was, the patients and all the staff loved her. Her amazing sense of humor, her laugh, and her genuine care for others. I consider myself lucky to have been in her orbit. Take care as you heal from this loss.

Our deepest sympathy to Sue’s family. I went to Regis with Sue. We were all fortunate to see her and visit with her at our 50th class reunion. Sue was a great friend to many! May she rest in peace.
