Janet Billerbeck

January 5, 1956 ~ June 23, 2026

Janet Billerbeck 70, of Lisbon, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at the Rehabilitation Center of Lisbon. Private family services will be held. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon, Iowa, is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Janet was born on January 5, 1956, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of John and Kathryn “Kaye” (Mazur) White. She graduated from St. John Catholic School and went on to attend Iowa State University earning a degree in Dietetics and Nutrition in 1978. Janet was a valued employee in the dietary department at the Iowa Medical and Classification Prison in Coralville, Iowa. She was united in marriage to William “Len” Billerbeck on November 26, 1988, in Independence and they made their home in Cedar Rapids. She later moved to Lisbon to be closer to family. 

Janet enjoyed family life to the fullest. She was grateful to be raised by the best parents ever on a big and beautiful farm with seven sibling and she felt blessed to be “one of the 8 J’s (a.k.a John Jim Judy Jerry Joe Jeff Janet and Jackie). Janet treasured her upbringing and reminiscing the endless memories brought her much joy. She had a special love for her nieces and nephews; their feelings were mutual and to some she was even considered “their other Mother.” 

Janet liked movies, reading, playing cards and games,cuddling her beloved cats, George and Gracie, and taking short trips with her sisters and friends. Her favorite trips were the annual sister/sister-in-law Wisconsin canoe and camping adventures. 

Janet is survived by her siblings, Jim White, Judy Thiessen, Joe (Annette) White, Jeff (Lucy) White, and Jackie (Jim) Engelbrecht; sister-in-law, Janet Laura White; 18 nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Gracie.  

Janet was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, John White and Jerry White; nephew Brian White; great nephew Kyle Decker; and her beloved cat George. 

Love for Janet came naturally because of her warm and wonderful personality, her sense of humor, her kindness and her gentle soul. She was absolutely the best and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

  1. Janet always went out of her way to greet me, whenever we were in a big group. She was so kind, funny, hard-working and always had a smile on her face. Most of all, she loved her family. I’m so sorry to hear this. God bless her.
