Sandra Burns

Sandra Kay Burns, 70, of Silvis, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025. A family graveside service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville, Iowa. The family is being cared for by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon.
Sandra was born April 23, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the cherished daughter of Melvin and Jean Baker. She grew up on the family farm north of Mechanicsville & graduated from Lincoln High School in 1973. She went on to graduate from American Institute of Business, Davenport, Iowa. Sandra retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 2022 after 42 glorious years as the Secretary for the Quality Director at Missions Command.
Sandi’s love for family also included many four-legged furry friends throughout the years. She will be remembered for her kind heart, love of animals, and the warmth she brought to family and friends.
Sandra will be remembered by her daughter, Brenda (Lance) Whitney; son, Brandon Burns; seven grandchildren, Abraham, Elizabeth, Victoria, Anastasia, and Jacob Whitney, Brayden and Brooklyn Burns; her brother and sister-in-law, Ron & Kathie Baker; sister-in-law, Becky Baker; brother-in-law, Orville Banasik; and many nieces, nephews, other extended family members.
She will be united in heaven with her parents, her brother, Gary Baker; sister, Sharon Banasik; and many other family members & friends.

I was that quality Director and Sandi did a terrific job supporting me ; always a smile on her face and able to get things done; I remember her sharing the apparent fact that the secretaries thought I was high maintenance. Not sure the basis for that, but it was Sandi that shared it so I guess it must’ve been true. I always enjoyed our friendship throughout the years.
