Luciano “Boyie” Alfonso Warrell Sr., 75, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Services will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Word of Faith Church of God and Christ, 2325 16th Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Luciano is survived by his sons, Luciano “Masha” A. Warrell Jr., Lezcano A. Warrell, and Lariano Warrell (Brethlan); his daughters, Louella A. Warrell, Luciana A. Warrell, and Latihma A. Warrell; his siblings, Louella A. Diaz, Leola Stark, and Gracia Bennett; 26 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and a host of nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Hoheb and Ida Warrell Diaz; his brothers, Leroy Swan, Robert Raymond Diaz Jr., Lorenzo Diaz, George Hoheb, and Rodney Hoheb; his sisters, Maude A. Hoheb and Etlla Hoheb-Altar; his son, Linares A. Warrell; his nephews, Damar A. Diaz-Doolin and Santonio Watkins; and his grandparents, Harold and Henrietta Warrell.
Luciano was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on November 24, 1950. He was well known throughout the Caribbean for his love of music and his remarkable musical talent. Over the years, he played in numerous bands, sharing his gift on the conga and trumpet, and he also recorded several albums. Music was one of his greatest passions, and he enjoyed all genres.
After arriving in the United States, Luciano worked in manufacturing. He was a faithful member of Gospel Tabernacle Church under the leadership of Pastor Mary Beets. In his free time, he treasured being with family and friends, sitting on his porch enjoying the fresh air, and dancing to his beloved calypso beats.
Luciano will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
