Maria Schneidermann

May 26, 1939 ~ April 6, 2026

Maria Schneidermann, 86, of Marion, Iowa, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Linn Manor Care Center. Services will be held at a later date. The family is being cared for by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.

Maria was born on May 26, 1939, in Valley City, North Dakota, to Chris and Gertie Van Hal. She graduated from Worthington High School in Minnesota in 1957. Maria was a self-made entrepreneur who also devoted herself to being a homemaker, caring for her four children and 13 foster infants.

Maria was known for her eccentric flair and unique sense of style. She loved wearing colorful scarves, hats, glasses, jewelry, and purses, each with its own distinct design. Going to thrift stores and garage sales was one of her greatest joys. She would compliment someone with a similar style, strike up a conversation, and often invite them over for coffee. She never met a stranger and seemed to be friends with everyone.

A talented decorator, she took great pride in arranging her home, for 54 years, with different furniture and decorations for every holiday. Throughout her life, she enjoyed singing, playing the autoharp, sewing, cooking, and baking.

Maria had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh and make others laugh. She was a natural storyteller and a bit of a jokester. She enjoyed drinking coffee at all hours, collecting antiques, eating popcorn, playing the card game Rook, and hosting various events and parties. For several years, she held vacation Bible school in her home, inviting neighborhood children to take part in games and activities. Above all, she cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, and friend.

Maria is survived by her son, Lynn (Jacqui) Schneidermann; daughters-in-law, Tanya Schneidermann and Mary Schneidermann; son-in-law, Bob Henry; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Martha Kruger and Vance Van Hal.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin Schneidermann; children, Lee Schneidermann, Amy Henry, and Jeff Schneidermann; and seven siblings.

The family extends a special Thank You to Linn Manor Care Center for the excellent care they showed for Maria.
