Max Lathum

January 11, 1964 ~ March 3, 2026

Max Lathum 62, of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Max was born on January 11, 1964, in West Union, Iowa, the son of Donald and Rosemary (Schmelzer) Lathum Sr. He was united in marriage to Julie Hansen on May 27, 2006, in Muckersville, Iowa.

Max was employed at Marion Iron for 27 years as a crane operator. He loved to fish, camp, and spend time at the cabin. He also loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandson, Cameron.

Max is survived by his parents; Donald Lathum Sr. and Rosemary Crawford; wife, Julie Lathum; children, Eric Hansen, Brianne (Justice) Emunah, Kelly Hansen, and Ashley Hugenel; grandchildren, Julian, Justice, JJ, Celia, Carolynn, Briley, Troy, Cameron, Skyler, and Maleana; great-grandchildren, Aurora, Ne’Avaa, Amaya, Ellenor, and three on the way; and siblings, Brenda (Robert) Steele, Theresa Woodson, Deborah (Jami) Lathum, and Donald Lathum Jr.

Max was preceded in death by his son, Troy Hansen; brother, Darrell Lathum; step-father, James Crawford; and grandparents, Max and Janet Schmelzer.
