Richard Nash

December 10, 1949 ~ January 13, 2026

Richard “Rick” Nash, 76, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on January 13, 2025, at UnityPoint Health St Luke’s Hospital. Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Unity Center of Cedar Rapids. A luncheon will follow. Guests are encouraged to wear baseball-themed attire. Caps will be permitted during the service. Private Burial will take place at Shiloh Cemetery, Hiawatha, Iowa.

Rick was born on December 10, 1949, in Ames, Iowa, son to Richard and Wanitta (Hutchens) Nash. He was united in marriage to Linda Wilkes on July 1, 1978, in Iowa City, Iowa. Rick lived a life that was a true testament to marriage. After Linda was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, he stood by her side with unwavering devotion and loyalty throughout her illness and for the rest of his life. Linda preceded him in death on November 3, 2008.

Rick was known for being stubborn, balanced by a quick wit and a strong sense of humor. Baseball was one of his greatest passions, and he found joy in coaching, mentoring, and keeping in touch with the players he helped shape over the years. Rick was steadfast in his faith, devoted to his church and sharing the Word. He treasured simple pleasures like watching westerns, napping with his beloved kitties, listening to gospel music, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Rick was a proud member of HKL, a founding member of Safe Place, and an active participant in Hiawatha Parks and Recreation.

He is survived by his children, James Nash, Jamie Nash, and Jessica (Bret) Mullenix; grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, and Alexander; and brother, Rick Sizemore.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Richard (Wanitta) Nash; wife, Linda Nash; and mother-in-law, Betty Wilkes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

In true Rick fashion, “Isn’t God good?”

  4. I remember Rick as being a man with a big heart and a love for baseball. Seems to me that Rick and Jimmy were assistant coaches under coach Sizemore on a few of my son Grants HKL teams. He always had a smile on his face and an encouraging word for all he engaged with. He will be missed!!
