Kevin Hinz, 69, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025, at his home surrounded by family.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 28, 2025, St. Matthew Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Private Family Burial: Holy Cross Cemetery, Anamosa, Iowa.
Kevin was born on September 11, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Sylvester and Joanne Hinz. He was united in marriage to Chris on August 4, 1978, at St. Pius Catholic Church.
Kevin was an amazing husband. Nurturing, loving and a very good listener. He loved going to Culver’s, cruising the strip with Chris, and taking trips to see his children and grandchildren.
Kevin was a family man, a true champion and role model on and off the field. A perfect bowler, a home run hitting, pitching machine, and a coaching mastermind. Kevin did it all, from teaching the kids chess, his one-of-a-kind jump-shot on the court, his love for sports like the 3 on 3 basketball tournaments, to pickup games with the boys. Allowing his daughter to put curlers in his hair for playtime, long drives to pitching practice, and long weekend ball games and cross country road trips.
He was a loving son and brother and was always there to help when needed. From being a mechanic to anything that needed repair, Kevin was the go-to and hero everyone could rely on. Kevin was your guy.
Kevin loved the game of golf and celebrated many tournament wins, friendly matches, and hole in one’s.
Kevin was calm, cool, and did everything he could to provide, protect, support, and encourage the people around him.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Kevin is survived by his wife Chris; children, Matt, Ben, Renee (Kyle) Krause; his grandchildren, Mara, Miles, Karson, Waylon, Arlo, and grand dog Ava; parents, Sylvester and Joanne Hinz; siblings, Dennis (Leia) Hinz, Kendra Hinz, DeAnne Hinz, and Karen (Tony) Knapp.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in care of Chris Hinz.

Thank you for the great memories. ♡
What a shock it was to hear of Kevin’s passing. I have so many memories from SM bball, Thursday lunches, XHS Golf outing and a host of others. I really don’t remember a time that he was angry. Frustrated maybe, but not angry and always focused! You will be missed my friend. Our sympathies Chris, Matt, Ben, Renee & grands. You are in our prayers.
My prayers to his family.
Kevin was truly one of the good guys! Whatever Kevin did he was always giving his best efforts from being a great athlete to being the best spouse, father, and friend anyone could ask for. He was always so positive about everything, going to miss you my friend! Sympathies to Chris, Matt, Ben, Renee and family.
My sympathies to the entire Hinz family. Kevin was such a great guy. Spent many Saturday mornings and Wednesday nights on the court with him. He was a great teammate when on your team and a fierce competitor as an opponent, but always a gentleman. Rest easy Kevin!
My thoughts and prayers are with all of the family. I was so sorry to read of Kevin’s death. May you all find peace and comfort knowing he is walking with our Lord and Savior and his suffering on this earth is over.
Love, hugs and prayers for all.
I am so heartbroken to learn of Kevin’s passing. All his smiles, all the laughter shared, all the good times seeing Tom and Kevin together have just flooded back. I’m pretty sure those two are together again.
