It is with the deepest and heartfelt sympathy that we say goodbye to Edward Jay Bernson. Known by many of his new friends in Iowa as the “Southern Gentleman”, he liked to share his accent as well as his politeness and charm.
Edward was born in Atlanta, Georgia, the only child of Richard (Dick) Bernson and Ethyl Mae Zuckerman. A graduate of Duke University, Edward was a lifelong fan of Duke basketball and would never miss a game.
His heart though was in that of French history and particularly that of Marie Antoinette. You would find him always with a book, and his library was quite extensive. Edward was also a connoisseur of classic film. He would often write articles for Turner Classic Movies, reviewing films of the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s. Edward was heard quoting from movies all of the time. He said, he didn’t want his life to imitate art but he wanted his life to BE art, and it was.
His employment with the head office of the Coca-Cola company in Atlanta was a beacon for others to follow to the top of the corporate ladder. A beautiful light has gone out here on Earth to shine even brighter in Heaven.
Go Blue Devils.

Edward was such a joy and will be missed.
