Mable Christine (Ferguson) Pritchett was born February 28, 1927, in Olden, Texas, to Harvey William and Flossie (Arnold) Ferguson. At an impressive 98 years old, she passed away on August 4, 2025, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Christine was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Frank; parents, brothers, Harvey “Son”, Dale, and Wayne Ferguson; children, Coralea Marie Pritchett, Karen Pritchett Klindera, and John Benjamin Pritchett; and grandchildren, Justin Klindera and Ashley Pritchett.
Survivors include her sisters, Judy Patterson and Sherry English; children, Kristy (Ken) Cameron, Virginia Pritchett, Ben Pritchett III; grandchildren, Lisa (Scott) Candelaria, Sara (Michael) Brannaman, Brandon (Jessica) Pritchett, Angie Shepherd, Seth Pritchett, Lindsay (Gabe) Maldonado, Ben Pritchett IV, and John Pritchett; great-grandchildren, Jacelyn, Noah, Emily, Che, Audrey, Maddie, Hallie, Asa, Harper, Eli, Tahj, Aja, Elijah, Addison, Ella, Ashton, Ezra, Tristan, Isaac, Ezekiel, Ariel, Autumn, and Aly; and a great-great-grandchild, Carter.
Christine grew up as the oldest of six children and recalled living in Texas with trips to the Gulf of Mexico, riding bicycles, and playing baseball with her brothers. In September 1944, she met a young Marine who was wounded in WWII and returned home to Texas. She recalled being in his uncle’s Texas store, and the young, handsome Marine was smitten with her. She married Benjamin Franklin “Frank” Pritchett, Jr. in Weatherford, Texas on November 7, 1944, and over the years they lived in various locations in the United States. Christine always loved Texas, and they settled in Mineral Wells, Texas around 1990. In 2015, she moved to Iowa to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Kristy and Ken, and had a wonderful life, often complimenting how her daughter was such a hard worker, making sure she was taken care of and always had healthy food.
She loved music, especially Elvis, Dean Martin, The Beatles, George Strait, and Garth Brooks; hummingbirds, Texas bluebonnets, chocolate, french fries, ice cream and western movies, especially John Wayne. A proud memory for her was meeting and taking photos with him in 1954, during the filming of The Searchers in Monument Valley, Arizona, where she and her husband were visiting. Christine held various jobs during her life, but her pride came from raising her family and watching them grow, learn, and succeed. In 98 years of wonderful and sometimes extremely challenging times, she said her greatest life accomplishments were being a wife, Mom, Grandma, and Nanny. Her family was her absolute joy, and her love was unconditional and selfless. She was a light in our lives, and her memory will be cherished. A memorial service for the family will be held in Texas, to honor and celebrate Christine’s life.
