Shelly was born on August 11, 1963, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Larry and Gloria (Wolfe) Hunt. She was united in marriage to Robert Meineke on September 26, 1987.
Shelly and Bob met when she was ten and Bob was seven. When Shelly was 23, they met again when Bob came to Gloria and Larry's house to swim, he smiled at Shelly and said 'tell your parents thanks for letting me swim' and in that moment she knew she was going to marry him.
Shelly graduated in 1981 from Lincoln Stanwood. She went to AIB in Des Moines, Iowa, and earned a degree in office management. Shelly worked for Life Investors, Hondi, Henry Russel Bruce Advertising Agency, Amana Refrigeration, and GE Capital/Wells Fargo. Shelly enjoyed craft shows, singing karaoke, shopping, chocolate, and helping run the family campground, Hunts Cedar River Campground. She also enjoyed playing Old Maid and Phase 10 with her close group of friends. Shelly was loved by all her friends and family.
Shelly is survived by her husband, children, Jacob (Kelsey) Meineke, and Ryan (Emily) Meineke; grandchildren, Brennen, Keely, Jaxon, Kyla, Averlee, Charlotte, Alivia, Atlyn, and Bodi; mother, Gloria Hunt; grandmother, Dorothy Wolfe; siblings, Mark (Katy) Hunt, Marty Hunt, and Larry (Lori) Hunt; and many nieces and nephews.
Shelly was preceded in death by her father, son, Richard Meineke, and niece, Brianna Sauer.
In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family in care of Bob Meineke.
We are deeply sorry for your loss ~ Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services – Mount Vernon
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hunt/Meineke family during this time of rememberance.
The first time I met Shelley is when she hosted Jill’s wedding shower/aka wine tour. She arranged for her parents small business & for her son to drive a bunch of women around. Shelley had a raging migraine but wouldn’t let it spoil the day. I never saw her without a smile on her face. I’m so glad she was Jill’s friend. Prayers for Bob & her so sons
Our warmest condolences,
Shelly gave me my first summer job, watching
Jake and Ryan. We communicated through a journal at her home throughout the summer and she was the kindest, sweetest, most maternal employer to a 14 yr old kid. Such a beautiful soul. Big hugs for your loss.
Sincerely,
Athea Eberhardt King
You will be missed by many, but I know heaven is brighter.
What a shocker! I worked with Shelly years ago at BHN. We became good friends and shared so many conversations like you do when you’re working. Bob, Jacob and Ryan, I’m so sorry for your loss.
Bob and all of your family,
While I only met Shelly briefly once or twice years ago, I offer my condolences to all of you. Your memories of her will be with you for a life time and I am sure she will mist greatly. I am sorry for your loss.

Bob, I remember when Shelly first told me about her feelings for you. She was excited, giddy, and overwhelmed that she had found the man she would love for the rest of her life. I believe her exact words were “I am SO in LOVE, isn’t he cute?!”
Such happy times we all shared during our “young” years – the simplest of things – swimming, playing cards, eating pizza, all the shenanigans. Still today, when there are large snow drifts, I smile thinking of the four of us stuffed in the car, snow-surfing the country roads. Shelly’s laughs and screams were infectious.
So to you Bob and the entire Meineke/Hunt family, I send my thoughts and prayers. I share in your sadness. But I know that the sorrow in our hearts today can never overshadow the love we feel for Shelly and I pray that the beautiful memories of her will always bring a smile. Shelly loved with all her heart and soul. In our hearts she will always be.
With deepest sympathy,
Vonda
