Dennis Pisarik

Dennis Vincent Pisarik, 81, of Mechanicsville, Iowa, formerly of Hopkinton, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, with his family by his side, after living with Parkinsons for 28 years. The visitation will begin with the rosary being recited at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mechanicsville, with visitation following from 4-7 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. on Monday, March 10, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mechanicsville, by Reverend James Flattery. Burial with military honors: Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Solon, Iowa. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon, Iowa. Dennis was born on January 25, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Raphael and Elizabeth (Becker) Pisarik. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1962, and then later from Kirkwood Community College. Dennis served honorably in the US Army from 1964-67, attaining the rank of Sergeant. On January 24, 1970, he married Joyce Meloy in Dubuque, Iowa. Dennis was an avid outdoorsman appreciating opportunities to trap, fish, and hunt. He was always on the hunt for the best places to gather mushrooms and adding to his collection of arrowheads. 'The Tooth' was his most famous find and he loved showing it off. Dennis' hands crafted many pieces of furniture including tables and chests which he graciously gifted to family and friends. He also shared his talent for playing the accordion and was always up for a game of euchre or listening to polka and old country music. He farmed for forty years near Hopkinton. His list of loves and achievements is lengthy, but he was most proud of his family and the time he spent with them. His memberships included St. Mary's Catholic Church of Mechanicsville, the Knights of Columbus, 75-year member of Catholic Order of Foresters, and American Legion Busch-Dennis Post 309. Survivors include his wife, Joyce; daughters, Sarah (Jason) Russell and Molly (Ryan) Crock; grandchildren, Bailey, Caleb, Rylee, and Brendon Crock, and Harper, Owen, and Nora Russell; brothers and sisters, Francis (Terri) Pisarik, Terese Pisarik, Larry (Kathy) Pisarik, Ron (Nancy) Pisarik, John (Jane) Pisarik, Kathy (Minor) Dix, Mark (Luann) Pisarik, Steve (Susan) Pisarik, and Mary (Ron) Holubar; brothers-in-law, Michael (Lisa) Meloy, and Julie (Mike) Hemmer; brother-in-law, Fred Nichols; and sister-in-law, LeAnn Pisarik. He is also survived by thirty-nine nieces and nephews. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Christine Pisarik; brother, Pat Pisarik; sister-in-law, Janet Nichols; and brother-in-law, John Meloy. Memorials are suggested to the Sts. Peter & Paul Historical Chapel, 1165 Taft Ave NE, Solon, Iowa 52333. Those unable to attend are invited to watch the service via livestream.   4. As kids, we all looked up to Dennis. He was funny and handsome and could play the guitar. In our neighborhood, that qualified as cool.

  5. Dennis was always helping us plant trees in the spring. Hoping his memorial trees will support a nice morel patch someday.

  6. Denny was my fathers, Robert Marskeks best friend in high-school and his adult life. They even took several trips together. All of dad’s best stories had Denny in them.

  7. Dennis was a great friend to our Dad, Robert Marshek! We heard many stories of their trips to the Golden Gate Bridge and Yellowstone. What I recall the most was their mushroom hunting adventures. Dad was blessed to have such a good friend. Our deepest sympathy to Joyce, Molly and Sarah❤️

  9. I am sorry to hear about Denny’s passing. During his time at Simpsons Memorial Home, I always enjoyed seeing him in the halls and having him participate in the monthly Men’s Group. I believe Bishop Zinklua visited, an unexpected and special moment for the Pisarik family. May Joyce and the entire family cherish their memories, and may he rest in peace. Bob Owen.

  11. Uncle Dan remembers taking boy scout troop #29 to Dennis and Joyce’s farm for a couple overnight camping trips. Dennis was an awesome tour guide on his place and showed the boys where to find Geode rocks and Arrow Heads. We always had a good weekend trip when we went to visit!

  12. Dennis was our brother in law! He was always willing to lend a hand & help us out any way he could! He had a kind heart & strong Catholic faith!
    We took care of his farm in 1979 so could attend Pope John Paul II mass ar Living History Farm in Des Moines. We have many special memories

  13. Joyce and Pisarik family,
    I’m so very sorry to hear of your loss. Dennis was quite a guy, he and I were in biology class together and he led the show in disecting critters. He knew what he was doing, do you suppose that was from hunting so many coons or was it a Pisarik thing? Anyway, we had a good time and I always tried to visit him in the Lisbon Rehab. He will be missed by so many and I know how loved he was.
