Timothy Roundtree-Bey, 57, of Mount Vernon, Iowa, passed away from this world, on October 24, 2023, at Unity Point St. Lukes Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. There will be no services. Stewart Baxter Funeral and Memorial Services, Mount Vernon, Iowa, is assisting the family.
Timothy Rountree-Bey was born on September 23, 1966, in Miami, Florida, the son of Timothy and Wessie (Porter) Roundtree-El Bey Sr.
Timothy described himself as a Moorish American of Cherokee Indian Descent. Raised in the Miami, Florida area, he graduated from Southridge Senior High School with a football scholarship to Grambling University. He later earned a degree in Psychology and worked in a hospital Psychiatric ward.
In 2006 Timothy moved to Iowa where he worked in landscaping and painting. Timothy was primarily known for his kindness and ability to engage in interesting conversations with anyone, from congressmen to the homeless on the street.
He loved Taoist philosophy, and seriously considered becoming a Taoist Monk. If a fly got into the house, Tim would engage in capture and release. He spent the last seventeen years in an easy loving relationship with his partner Gail Ireland, a relationship he described as 'absolutely effortless'. He loved the grandchildren, Marquez, Adrian, Nathan, and Reagan; helping to prepare the Wednesday weekly dinners was the highlight of his week. He loved football, especially the Ravens, and Tango Dancing; for years he was a Tango DJ.
He had good friends who were like family to him. Those who knew him called him a good man. Those who knew him well would call him an extraordinary man.
Timothy is survived by his siblings, Mark (Andrea) Roundtree, Noble Philip (Cynthia) Roundtree-Bey, Beverly Roundtree, Lois Roundtree, and Penny Dixon; a host of nieces and nephews; his partner of seventeen years; Gail's children, Michael and Ellen Ireland; four grandchildren; and many good friends.
Timothy was preceded in death by his parents.

Thank you for your personal thoughts and reflective words. Reflecting allows you to realize how much youโve done right, the good things youโve done in your life. Without reflection, it’s too easy to forget these things, and focus instead on little failures. I appreciate your remembering my Motherโs efforts in the community. My brother Timothy definitely would appreciate this. ๐
Our family appreciates the love and kindness during this difficult time.

I had not talked to or seen Tim since high school, but he was always so humble and a gentleman even in high school. We both were student athletes. Thank you for the good memories Tim โค๏ธ
Tim was such a wonderful person. A great brother in law. I loved him to pieces. When my husband took me home to Florida to meet his family for the first time, Tim made me feel so welcome and instantly treated me like his sister. I will miss him so much.

Tim used to work at the mall in Iowa City. He could see movies for free, so on a couple occasion s he invited me. We saw Master and Commander and the Matrix. Two of my all time favorite movies. We played chess together. I was privileged to know him.
