Beverly Jean Harris, 93, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids.Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Stewart Baxter Funeral Home & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: two hours prior to service.Burial: 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Fort Dodge Memorial Cemetery.
Beverly was born on July 28, 1930, in Geddes, South Dakota, the daughter of Clifford and Cora (Van Gorkom) Jones. She was united in marriage to her soulmate Glenn Harris Jr. in Blue Earth, Minnesota on February 25, 1950. Glenn served in the U.S. Navy.
A true hero to her children, Beverly attributed her success in raising them alone after the early death of her loving husband to her unwavering faith in God.
Beverly completed a successful career serving as School Secretary for the Gilmore City/Bradgate School district. She loved cats, camping, fishing, gardening, dancing, sewing, quilting, and baking (her coveted English Toffee is truly the best in the world).
As a member of the Cedar Rapids First Lutheran Church, she devoted her time helping those in need, providing food for funerals, assembling weekly bulletins, and creating quilts as part of the Comfort Makers ministry, providing quilts and lap blankets for family shelters, children's home, and care facilities.
Beverly is survived by her children, Michael (Kim) Harris, Kevin (Tonya) Harris, Cory (Robin) Harris, and Kallie (Dale Johnson) Harris; ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, siblings, Dorothy Ricklefs and Ronald (Petra) Jones; and sister-in-law, Arlene Jones.
Beverly was preceded by in death by her parents, husband, siblings, Darrel Jones and Richard Jones; and brother-in-law, Harold Ricklefs.

I’m sorry to hear of the passing of Bev. She truly was one of the best people I’ve ever come across. I loved nothing more than spending time listening to some stories and doing puzzles with her and of course joking around with her. She’s going to be greatly missed.

I so enjoyed seeing Bev at Comfort Makers. She was such a faithful member of the group and of First Lutheran for all the years her body allowed. She was so proud of Kallie her grandchildren Vicki Hughes

Beverly was an amazing woman and I am honored to be one of her daughter in laws. She raised 4 wonderful kids and I am honored to be part of the Harris family.
