Clara Dye

June 1, 1929 ~ August 5, 2023

Clara Dye, 94, passed away on her mother's birthday Saturday, August 5, 2023, peacefully at Living Center West, Cedar Rapids. Clara was the youngest of four born June 1, 1929, to Wilhelm (William) and Olive (St. Martin) in Cedar Rapids. Services will be held at The Olive Tree 2201 16th Avenue SW Cedar Rapids, Iowa on August 27, at 4:00 p.m. by Rev. Jerry Stevenson. Clara and George Dye married October 16, 1954, at First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. For several years they resided in Cedar Rapids, where they were blessed with two daughters, KayLynn and Sue. In the mid 1960's they moved to Toddville where they considered home for over 20 years. During those years George worked for McBurney Drilling and Pump Service, and later Greiner Pump Service while Clara remained a housewife. Clara suffered from grand mal epileptic seizures and mental health challenges which made life full of challenges for her. With those challenges she never lost her faith. She was a strong believer in turning the other cheek. She devoted her life as a wife and mother to her daughters. Her canine companions were dear to her. She was especially fond of Angel and Louie. Clara is proceeded in death by her parents, William (1959) and Olive (1985); husband, George (2014); sisters, Jo (2021) and Rosie (2022); brother, Carl (2015); grandson, Josh (2014); and sister-in-law, Elsie (2015) whom she loved spending time with. She is survived by her daughters, KayLynn (significant other Kay 'Rusty' Nelson) and Sue (wife Jeanne); and grandchildren, Dave (significant other Melissa Ertman), Jason, Heather and Dan; great grandchildren, Kaleb, Brevianna 'B', Dean, and Bella. Special thanks to the staff at Living Center West, Dr. Reider and Dr. Soenen for the care they gave our mother.

  1. We are deeply sorry for your loss ~ Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services – Cedar Rapids

  2. Clara was a joy at Milestones Adult Center in Cedar Rapids, for many years. She was so happy to share her Adult Coloring pictures she drew with staff and friends. She played a mean game of Bingo, and loved her nails painted! She sang “You Are My Sunshine” at Karaoke alot!!! She had many friends and everyone loved Clara. Fondest time was when she and I called George on their anniversary, he was in a Care Center and she smiled and talked to him on speaker phone! Her smile and giggles…true love… I am fortunate I saw her a few months ago at Living Center, she loved to hug!..So glad our paths crossed, she was truly a very special lady. Milestones and I truly missed her when she moved.

  3. Hi, I remembered how much Clara liked going out to eat with her family. I know how much we will miss her. I am sorry for your loss, you have my deepest sympathy. Vikki
