Skylar Becker

Skylar Elliot Becker, 27, left us far too soon. He passed away Sunday, May 7, 2023, at his home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, after a brief illness. Skylar was born on February 18, 1996, in Algona, Iowa. Growing up, he loved penguins and all things aerospace. In high school, Skylar was active in the Iowa Civil Air Patrol. After graduating from Algona High School in 2014, he attended Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids for a brief period. It's in Cedar Rapids that Skylar met his life partner, Edwin Jahn, in 2015. They made their home there with their beloved cats: Lynx, Octavia, ManCat and Kiefer. In his own words, Skylar was a 'philosopher by day, falafelosopher by evening, and asleep by night.' He was a nostalgia buff who enjoyed music, food and TV from times well before he was born. If you wanted to sit down for a meal of liver and onions while taking in an episode of M*A*S*H, Skylar was your guy. Skylar is survived by his life partner, Edwin; his mother and stepfather, Dominga Ruiz Sic and ScoQ Sic, of Algona, Iowa; his father and stepmother, Blane and Betsy Becker of Algona, Iowa; his brother, Sturling Becker, of Algona, Iowa; grandparents, Brian and Linda Burck, of Algona, Iowa; grandparents, William and Susan Hobson, (Grandpa Tuner and Grandma Shoes) of Algona, Iowa; grandparents, Lurlin and Connie Hoelscher, of Williams, Iowa; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Skylar was preceded in death by grandparents Jerome 'Jake' and Linda Becker and grandparents Rosendo Sic Iboy and Magdalena Lajuj Ruiz. Skylar's Celebration of Life will be held at the Matthew 25 Cultivate Hope Urban Farm, 437 G Ave NW, Cedar Rapids on Sunday, June 25th at 4:30pm. 'I'll miss you. A lot.
