Kevin Hackert

March 14, 1961 ~ September 21, 2022

Kevin Alex Hackert, 61, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Born on March 14, 1961 in Washington, Iowa, Kevin was welcomed into Stanley and Kathleen (Gevock) Hackert's family where he flourished. He graduated from Center Point High School in 1979 before completing certifications at Kirkwood Community College. Kevin worked many years at Whirlpool as a member of the International Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 1526. He was handy with all sorts of things, there was nothing he wouldn't tackle especially for friends and family. Kevin volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, and loved spending time at the cabin in Delhi and being out in nature. Favorite times were spent enjoying Packers, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Cubs whenever possible. Kevin is survived by his wife, Darla Stephen; father, Stanley Hackert; siblings, Terri Hackert, Kris (Mike) Liercke, and Mark (Sela) Hackert; nieces and nephews, Tory, Quinn (Katie), Lincoln, Ryan (Jordan), and Rachel; and his loving cat, Sally. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen; and his grandparents.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. We are deeply sorry for your loss ~ Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services – Cedar Rapids

  2. Kevin was our cabin neighbor at Lake Delhi! We had many good times with Kevin and Darla, and Stan and Kathy at the cabin. Kevin was a great neighbor and helped us many times with projects. He was so strong and was a genius when it came to solving mechanical issues. We still use a dock jack that Kevin made from an old car jack.
Our memories of Kevin include his music on the pontoon boat and the American flag he flew on the boat. When we heard the song, “God Bless the USA”, we knew Kevin was heading down river.
Our sympathies to Darla and Stan and Kevin’s sisters and their families.

  3. Stan and kids,
Mark and I were so shocked and sad to hear about Kevin’s passing.
You will be in our prayers
    Julie & Mark Ward

  4. Thoughts and prayers to Kevin’s family. Worked with him for a short time and a fellow Center Point alum. Kevin was always nice and made work fun. Rest easy

  5. I met Kevin in 1975 when my family moved to Center Point and became the best of friends. All the family parties and get togethers with your Dad’s delicious food!!! and our moms laughs.

I just saw Terrie today and we chatted about how you could do anything with a hammer and nail and you’d do for anyone needing help. Remember working at the lumbar yard across the street from my little house where you’d stop in every so often just to chat awhile.

You’re with your mom and Rosemary now so without a doubt, laughing and having a blast. Keep the gates open and we’ll have those family get togethers again…sometime
    Janet

  6. I loved hanging out with Kevin. He was always funny and loved to goof off. He will be missed by all. Prayers to the family
