Shawn Augustine Van Dee

September 29, 1969 ~ May 17, 2022

Shawn A. Van Dee of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2022, after a short battle with lung cancer at the Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice at Unity Point Health. Per Shawn's wishes there will be no services at this time. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services of Cedar Rapids is assisting the family. Survivors include his wife, Karen; two sons, Alexander and Stephen both at home; mother, Elizabeth 'Liz' Van Dee of Buffalo, MO; a sister, Tamara Van Dee of Riley, Michigan; and numerous other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Shawn Augustine Van Dee was born September 29, 1969, the son of Donald and Elizabeth 'Liz' Kauffman Van Dee in Iowa City, Iowa. He grew up in Cedar Rapids where he attended school, graduating from Jefferson High School in 1988. After high school, Shawn attended and graduated from Kirkwood Community College with an Associate's Degree. Shawn was united in marriage to Karen Kappmeyer at the Beaver Park in Cedar Rapids on May 19, 2010. The couple made their home in Cedar Rapids and were blessed with two sons. Shawn work for over twenty years at Heinz in Cedar Rapids. He was currently employed at West Rock in Cedar Rapids. Shawn dearly loved his family and was a hard-working individual. He prioritized providing for his family while always making sure to enjoy the little-things in life. Shawn enjoyed Geode hunting, digging for fossils, going to Las Vegas Raiders football games and going to the zoo and circus with his family. He was preceded in death by his father Donald; maternal and paternal grandparents; and several uncles. The Family of Shawn Van Dee would like to extend sincere a 'Thank You' to the entire staff at the Albert G. and Helen Nassif Radiation Center and Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice at Unity Point Health. Memorials may be made in Shawn's name to the Albert and Helen Nassif Radiation Center.
