Robert Leo Capaccioli, age 94, beloved father, grandfather, granpoopa, and great-great grandfather, drew his last breath on February 18, 2021, extremely despondent that the Green Bay Packers did not play in the Superbowl this year. Born August 22, 1926, he served in the Navy during World War II. After the war, he married Esther Jeanette Ammala, who preceded him in death, and together they raised ten, corn fed children in the Hawkeye state. He spent his years regaling his children with stories of the depression, bawdy Navy life, and working with the Apollo space program. The greatest highlight of his life was when his beloved Chicago Cubs won the World Series in 2016, though he still found time to watch the Packers, Carolina Hurricanes, and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Robert is survived by nine of his ten children, James having preceded him in death. Alan Capaccioli of Amber, Iowa; Terri Travis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Deborah Capaccioli of The Woodlands, Texas; Tina Van Nevel of Browns Summit, North Carolina; Patti Hanline of Garner, North Carolina; Jan Capaccioli of McAllen, Texas; Lisa Parson Capaccioli of Plainfield, Vermont; and Tami Kellen of Farmington, Minnesota. He also has a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, too many to name.
He will be buried next to his beloved wife at 11 am on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at the Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon, Iowa. He was a great lover of animals, so if you wish to donate in his memory, we suggest S.A.I.N.T. Rescue (Saving Animals in Need Today) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, or any other animal rescue group of your choice.
