Terrence L. Wightman was born July 7, 1951, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Wyant and Marian (Roti) Wightman. He attended Mitchell High School, graduating as Valedictorian in 1968, then attended the University of Nebraska, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Business & Accounting graduating in the top 5% of his class. He then attended Nebraska's Law School where he met Carol Evans, and they were married December 28, 1974, in Norfolk, Nebraska.
Upon graduating and both passing the Minnesota State Bar they moved to the Minneapolis, Minnesota, area and spent cherished time along the shores of Lake Superior. Carol and Terry adopted two Korean babies'they became the center of their lives. After moving to Cedar Rapids in 1986, Terry began a payroll and accounting business, Pardata, with his business partner, Bob Pentico. Terry was an avid outdoorsman, especially fishing, hiking, and camping, and used his skills to lead the Boy Scouts Troop 9 for many years. His article entitled 'What is the Right Tool for the Job?' was recently published in The Backwoodsman magazine's July/August 2020 edition. Terry had a way with words, and was proud to have won the South Dakota State extempore competition in 1969. Both Terry and Carol were collectors and enjoyed visiting auctions together to find items that piqued their interest such as stamps and signs. Terry enjoyed reading, going to see action movies with Josh, and outdoor adventures with Alison, watching football, especially Nebraska and the Minnesota Vikings, and building model airplanes, cars, and military vehicles.
Terry was an intelligent and charming man, full of good humor and Dad jokes. He was proud of his achievements and those of his children. He will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and beloved wife, Carol, six months ago; and close friend, Brent Pahl in November.
Memorials may be directed to St. Stephen's Lutheran Church.
Alison & Josh so sorry to hear of your father’s passing. I know your hearts aren’t healed from your mom’s passing. Please let me know when you have scheduled services for Terry. Your Parents were a wonderful couple with giving hearts. Sorry I have lost touch with both of them, esp Carol before her death. My prayers are with you bothly, and the rest of the family. Tried to find Alison on FB but didn’t know which one was her. Hopefully, Alison will still have my email address from Carol’s online commemoration.
We are very saddened by Terry’s passing! He did our taxes for years, and we always enjoyed our visits with him and also with Carol before she passed. We will miss them both very much!
Alison and Josh I am so sorry by Terry’s passing. He meant so much to our family. I can envision he and Brent sitting by a campfire discussing what next meal to make in dutch oven for the Scouts. As well as Carol and Terry creating new recipes from Food network. A sad time for your family and I pray your happy memories will ease the pain. Your parents were wonder role models for so many. They will be missed!
My sympathies and prayers to Terry’s family. I am a fellow member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran. Terry and I were volunteer counters at the church and Terry and I counted together many times over the years. I always enjoyed visiting with him during our time together and enjoyed his sense of humor and perspective on various issues. I will miss him very much, but I am sure that he and Carol are happy to be reunited.
I’m so sorry to read about Terry’s passing. I’ll always cherish all the experiences we shared in Scouting. It was a pleasure to work with such a knowledgeable and caring man.
Josh and Alison, I am so sorry for your loss! This has been a very hard year for you. Your Dad was always so wonderful, kind, calm and encouraging to all of the Scouts and Scouters in Troop 9 and HAC. I have years of great memories watching my son Andrew Olson and all of the others grow and learn under his leadership. Not to mention camping, scout events, holiday parties. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Blessings and healing to you both!
So sorry to hear of Terry’s passing. Condolences to his family. I always enjoyed talking to Terry when I was in working on his computer software. Karl Blumer.
Ali and Josh; Nancy and I are saddened to learn that your Dad passed away. Terry and I created many lasting memories in our launching of PARDATA; long hours, many late night into the early morning with a shared goal. This focus culminated into being named Entrepreneurs of the Year. Terry was a trusted partner and friend. We also shared many Scouting experiences. One special evening was when Josh was honored and recognized as a new Eagle Scout. As for you Ali, you were always my favorite cute little “girl friend”. We wish both of you strength going forward with the love of both Terry and Carol in your hears forever.
I am so very sad to learn about Terry’s passing. Terry has done my taxes at Pardata for more than 10-years and he also did my dad‘s taxes before me. He was a nice man, always made me laugh, he was super helpful with my taxes, very patient, and always took his time going through everything with me. He will be missed. Terry and Carol are together again. ♥️ Prayers to his children and loved ones. ♥️🙏🏻
