Randy is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Judy Rundle, and mother-in-law, Sharon Sheldon.
Randy was born September 11, 1956, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Dick and Judy (Aldrich) Rundle. He attended Mount Vernon High School (class of 1974) and the University of North Dakota. He earned a scholarship to UND and was a linebacker for the Fighting Sioux.
On August 25, 1984, he married Kari Sheldon in Iowa City, Iowa. They made their home on a small acreage south of Mount Vernon. Randy began his career at Rockwell Collins/Goss Graphics, and for the last twenty years worked for IGD Industries.
Randy enjoyed riding his Harley and taking road trips with Kari. Their travels took them all over the country and created many fun and special memories. He enjoyed the outdoors, caring for their acreage, fixing things in his shop, and cooking/grilling with Kari. Spending time with his grandkids gave him great joy. They will remember many tractor rides around the yard with Grandpa at the wheel. Randy, "Pa", "Grandpa", "Papa" will forever live in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a memorial tree planted in Randy's honor, or donations may be directed to the American Heart Association or the Indian Creek Nature Center.
Randy was a classmate, so sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with his family at this difficult times.
Randy was a classmate. Was very surprised to hear about his passing. Prayers to his family
Randy worked with both of us at Goss. He was a super, super guy, always happy and smiling. This has been a total shock. We both have seen him in recent months and when I saw him I was expecting him to look like he did in the 80’s. We had a good laugh when we talked about the memories from the years the three of us worked together. We remember when Joshua and Jeremy were born, even when you got married. Kari and boys—–you are in our thoughts and prayers. Blessings—-Larry and Sheilah Igou, Swisher, Ia
worked next area over from Randy’s station always a good polite guy peace be with family
I was very shocked and sadden to hear about Randy, I have worked with him going on 19 years at IGD. He is a great guy and will truly be missed! Thoughts and prayers for his family! ♥
I met and worked with Randy as we transition into the new Honeywell building in downtown Cedar Rapids back in 2013. Very personable gentleman and very knowledgeable and helpful in our transition and was an all-around good people person. He was also very supportive when we lost our building in Fairfax which also took one of our employees with it during a severe storm. Randy’s compassion during that time with something I won’t forget as well. Rich Struve
We are thinking of you during this difficult time. Randy was a great guy and will be missed by many.
Kari, I’m so very sorry to learn of your loss. It is not easy. I know how your heart is aching right now. Know you are in my special thoughts at such a difficult time. Annamae Baker
He was a good machinist, good foreman, and prince of a guy!
I have known Randy for over 30 years and his lovely wife, Kari. I consider all of the Sheldon children like a second set of siblings as they are my God brother and sisters. Randy was always very nice and devoted to his family. Rest in peace. Eric Jensen, Phuong-Lynh, MaiLynh, and VyLynh
Our thoughts and prayers are being sent to you Kari and the whole family . God be with you!
Kari no words can express the sadness I feel about you losing Randy. I can only relate it by the difficult times my mom had when my dad died and the only thing that would give her any Joy was spending time with her 1 grandchild at the time. I didn’t know Randy well he was more quiet but I do know he was respected by a lot of people and with Joey and Jeremy being besties growing up I saw all the love that was in your family. Kari you are loved by so many people and I hope that all that love and strength helps to carry you through this most difficult time in your life. I love you too ❤️
Very surprised to read of Randy passing away. I knew him for 30 some years and always had good times together and a good work relationship. So many memories. May God bless those he left behind, he will be missed. Stephen Klein
Very sad to hear of the passing of one of the best childhood friends you could ask for. I will always remember the time that I lived next door to Randy and his family. Many fond memories of “tearing up” the neighborhood! Randy, or as he was known to us in high school, “Whop” was truly a great guy and so much fun to be around. The many trips we took to Swisher in the Commando Jeep were especially memorable. Rip!!!
