Richard Edgar Lilledahl was born April 24, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, to Thor and Mary 'Mamie' (Casey) Lilledahl. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1952, then began studying at the University of Iowa until joining the Army. Upon his return in 1956, Dick met Carol Strong at his coming home party, and they were married on September 6, 1958, at St. Matthew's. He returned to the University to complete his Bachelor's in Accounting. He began working for Rockwell Collins, retiring after over 30 years in 1994.
Dick was a lifetime member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, and participated in many of the church activities. He belonged to the Sons of Norway and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Dick enjoyed gardening flowers, raking, spending time outdoors'especially in the woods, watching birds, and spending time with his pets. He loved taking his family on vacations, especially to the cabin on the Wapsipinicon River. He was a generous and giving person, had a great sense of humor, and an optimistic mentality that everyone enjoyed. Dick cherished the time he spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Sarah; infant daughter; son, Robert 'Bob'; brother, Jack; nephew, John; and in-laws, Phyllis Lilledahl, and Walt and Anita 'Cookie' Strong.
This is where I get my persistence and hard-headedness from. I told you not to build the playhouse in the woods! There are spiders down there!
BDE!!! Love you always!

Love you grandpa and glad to have had such wonderful times with you!
I have such lovely memories of a fun and giving uncle. Whenever I saw him (not enough), I knew I was “home”. Great condolences to those others who loved him, especially Carol, his children, and his grandchildren.

Deepest sympathy in your time of loss. I have such fond memories of your dad, and entire family from growing up next to you on Cold Stream. He will be missed. Much love to you all.

Thinking and praying for you and your family
Carol, we’re disappointed to be out of town at this time as we get word of Dick’s death. We want you to know you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. We will not forget Dick and his ready warm smile of a gentle man. Connie and Mike Strabala
I am so very sorry for your loss. Please find comfort in God’s sure promise of a resurrection as set forth in the Bible. (Acts 24:15; John 5:28,29) Those who are raised to life will have the prospect of never again being subject to misery, sickness, or death. (Revelation 21:4) I hope that reflecting on these thoughts and your cherished memories will give you some relief during this difficult time.
