  1. Our thoughts & prayers are with you in the passing of your brother/uncle. We got to know Joseph (Joey) at Saint Patrick during Church Service and meals we shared in the Parish Center. He was always pleasant and had a great smile. We are glad to have had him as a part of our lives.

  2. We enjoyed seeing Joe at St. Patrick’s on Sunday mornings. We are sorry to hear of his loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.

  3. I did know Joseph, he was my friend. As a member of First Lutheran, he walked into our church over 10 years ago, walked down the aisle, and sat with me and my husband. On that day, he became my friend. He didn’t share anything about himself or his life but he was always happy to see me and I was happy to see him and his smile. I didn’t know even if he had a family, so thankful that he had so many that loved him. He is now at peace.
    My sympathy to your family,

  4. I met Joe once. I was a 16 year old kid around 2012 and very troubled. I think I approached him on first ave and asked him for a cigarette or something. He presented me with a garbage bag full of beer he found by a dumpster. We openly drank on the busiest street in cedar rapids until the dumpster beer was gone and tried to get more booze from Hy-Vee and they wouldn’t sell his 72 year old man self a bottle of liquor because he didn’t have an id. So I made a scene about how they were not being fair to my “grandpa”. Man he gave me some wisdom only a freebird like myself could give a dumb kid like me at the time. Told me about his life . Heard about mine. Didn’t preach didn’t hold judgement. Truly a man to be remembered. I’m 30 now and bipolar and I realize he probably was something like that too. But I always remember that Italian smile. And he’s always gonna be with me. Miss you brother.
