Gary Rodriquez, 75, of Marion, died suddenly on March 9, 2018. Celebration of Life: 11 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2018, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 1-4 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2018, at the funeral home. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include his long-time significant other, Kris Dawson; children, Brad (Rosita) Rodriquez and Brie Dawson; siblings, Nancy, Gloria, Carmen, and Bob (Barb); and many extended and adoptive families. Gary Lee Rodriquez was born August 27, 1942, to Michael and Gwen (Phelps) Rodriguez. He graduated from West Branch High School. Gary worked multiple jobs over the years, including Smulekoffs, selling insurance, owning a bar, and most recently driving for Nick's Cab. He enjoyed mowing, collecting toys, visiting thrift shops, cooking and grilling, and boating and fishing. Gary especially enjoyed spending time with his 'girls', Brie and Kris, playing poker with family and friends, and visiting the casino. He was preceded in death by his parents; former spouse, Carol; and pets, Smokie and Eddie.

  5. As a good friend of Derdre and Deinea i came to know their Uncle Gary, He was always smiling and laughing and always had a joke to tell.
    He also always seemed to be there when we needed him most..As teenage girls we would go places and never think about wether we had a way back home or not, i remember once going to the ymca and we didnt have a way home. We started to walk, then it started to rain. We started to run, then all of a sudden a car pulls up in front of us and the front door opens and the man inside says ” get in girls”..uncle Gary.. he was our hero then, and now.
