Helen Marie Farrington, 91, of Rural Olin, died Thursday, March 8, 2018, at the Mechanicsville Specialty Care surround by her family. Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 12, 2018 at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon. Visitation: 2-5 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial: following services at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville.
She is survived by her children, Gordon (Wanda) of Mechanicsville, Norman (Deb) of Mechanicsville, Elaine (Dean) Anderson of Tipton, and Gloria (Frank) Dohmen of Mechanicsville; grandchildren, Michele Farrington, Mark (Stacy) Farrington, Eric (Autumn) Farrington, Erin (Chris) Rada, Katrina (Scott) Pearson, Seth (Melissa) Anderson, Ryan (Chrissy) Dohmen, Kyle, (Lynnsey) Dohmen, Jacob (Anna) Dohmen; great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Haley, Johanna, Scarlett, Cameron, Brynn, Piper, Macy, William, Lauren, Grant, Charlotte, Lily, Emma, and Ethan; and eight in-laws.
Helen was born on the Platner family farm north of Mechanicsville August 16, 1926 to Howard and Hazle (Miller) Platner. She graduated from Mechanicsville High School in 1944. In 1947, she graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. Helen married Glenn Farrington on August 21, 1948 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They farmed together on the Farrington family farm for 50 years. Helen was a devoted and caring farm wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed baking and gardening.
Preceding Helen in death were her parents; husband, Glenn; sisters Edith Puffer, and Arlene Ross; and brother, Herbert Platner.
