Joanne Dvorak

Joanne Dvorak, 86, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016, at West Ridge Care Center. Funeral Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Steve Garner. A rosary service will begin at 4:30 on Tuesday followed by visitation from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include her sons, David (Janice) Dvorak and Dennis (Colleen) Dvorak; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and sister, Patricia Boddiker. Joanne Marie Bruce was born December 21, 1929, in Cedar Rapids to Basil and Ella (Dalton) Bruce. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic School in the spring of 1949, then on August 27, 1949, she married Lester W. Dvorak in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed playing Bingo'sometimes every day, helping Lester with his garden, and serving food at schools for the hot lunch program. She spent most of her time raising two boys and could cook anything; everyone loved her home-style meals. After the boys had grown, she worked for the Linn County Treasurer's office until her retirement. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband; and sister, Doris Tucker.
