Jon Gossman

Jon Gossman, 21, of Stanwood, died Tuesday, October 20, 2015. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 26, 2015, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon, by Rev. Scott Keele Kober. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial: 3 p.m. Monday at West Union Cemetery. He was born on July 30, 1994 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Twyla (McElree) of West Union and Mark Gossman of Cedar Rapids. Jon grew up in Cedar Rapids, where he played soccer, baseball, and football, and enjoyed hanging out with the neighborhood kids. He graduated from Midland Park High School in 2012. He attended one year of college at Muscatine Community College. He was employed at Allsteel in Muscatine and most recently at CCB Packaging in Hiawatha. Jon was always willing to help out a friend any way he could, and was loyal to his word. Jonathan married Mikaela Paulsen-Brown on July 19, 2014. They were blessed with a beautiful baby daughter, Lilah Rae, on January 27, 2013. One year later, on January 30, 2014, a beautiful baby boy was born: Zayne Alexander. They captured everyone's heart. Jon was such a proud and loving father and loved his family dearly. Jonathan is survived by his wife, Mikaela; children, Lilah and Zayne; parents, Twyla (Dennis) McElree and Mark Gossman; brother Chris Gossman (Josy Zielger) and family of Farmersburg, Iowa; step-brothers, Dan (Shari) McElree and family, Matt (Janell) McElree and family; grandparents, Elmer and Harriet Moss of West Union, and Keith and Barbara Paulsen of Stanwood; mother-in-law, Karen Paulsen; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his uncles, Mike Gossman and Kenny Sutton; aunt, Jennifer Gossman; and father-in-law, Melvyn Brown.

  1. To Jon’s family there are no words to ease what you must be feeling. May the higher powers provide you with comfort and healing now and always. Jon was a good kid mixed up with the wrong side of life. Know that he was well liked and will live on in the hearts and minds of many.

  6. i love you with all my heart my brother….ive cryed so many times in the last couple of weeks and i still cant mend whats not here anymore….every tear i shed is for you my friend…but its so hard to say goodbye, but in the mean time fly away my friend…i love and will always miss you!!!!
