Ricky was born July 17, 1961, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Richard and Lavonne (Ripperton) Ricklefs. At age 14, Ricky started working for H&H Radiator in Cedar Rapids, eventually becoming the owner and operator until the flood of 2008. He then worked for Frickson Masonry in Shellsburg and G&G Auto Parts in Vinton. On December 21, 1985, he married Kay Dotson. Ricky enjoyed hunting and fishing.
I don’t know Rick personally, but I do remember taking many leaky radiators to him at his shop on E Ave NW. He always did a great job at a very reasonable price. Very friendly guy. Thoughts and prayers to his family.
Really gonna miss his stories and laugh when he would tell me stories in his shop on E ave. met him at 16 and always had some advice for me. I didn’t always follow it but I was young. Lol. Or watching him or his dad race his blue jeep “mudd duck 2 ” in mud runs, He was a guy that didn’t care who you were, he treated you fair and always had a smile around the guys who hung out at the shop.
with that being said, He will be missed by many.

We used to live a few doors down from Rick and his wife Kay, in the 90’s. His parents & brothers lived right next door to us, in the other direction. When I needed a radiator repaired I took it to Rick at H&H. He fixed it, and would not accept any payment. His generosity at that time, leaves me with a pleasant memory yet today. He was a good man, and came from a good family. May he rest in peace, and may his
family find comfort in their memories of Ricky.

I was first introduced to Rick by my ex husband father. Rick was a very wise and caring person. He would not hesitate to help anyone . Rick always had stories to tell and some how it would turn in to advise. He was always very helpful. He will be greatly missed. Thoughts and prayers to his family to find comfort in the days ahead.
I also do not know Ricky. But, Dan and I hung out a lot back in our Navy days and I’m sure they had a lot in common. With that being said, if I had ever met Ricky I’m sure we also would of been good friends. To the Ricklefs family, bless your family in this hard time, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
