Christine Krummel

Christine Louise Hudachek Krummel, 93, of Lisbon, died Friday, February 04, 2005 in Hallmark Care and Rehabilitation Center, Mount Vernon from a brief illness. The funeral mass for Christine will be 10:00 a.m., Monday (2-7-05) at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at Mount Vernon by the Reverend David J. Ambrosy. The family will greet friends from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices Mount Vernon Chapel. A vigil service will begin at 4:00 p.m. Sunday in the chapel. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville. Surviving Christine are her daughter Marcella and husband Edward Koutny of Springville, and their children: Darwin and wife Karen Koutny of Springville, Dianne and husband Russ Cook of Mechanicsville, Danette and husband Chris Moore of Lisbon; three grandchildren: Trevor, Cassidy, and Jamien Moore of Lisbon; two step-great grandchildren: Amy and husband Jeff Cerda of Cedar Rapids, Shawn and wife Dixie Hall of Springville; step-great great grandchildren: Karly Cerda, Daisha and Charlene Hall; two sisters: Helen Thuerauf and Lillian Krummel both of Mt. Vernon. Preceding Christine in death were her parents, husband Alfred who died June 29, 1937, six brothers: William, Louis, Daniel, Lafe, Paul, and Edward, and one sister Elsie Walshire. Christine was born April 8, 1911 at the Hudachek family farm in Lisbon, the daughter of Edward and Anna Vislisel Hudachek. She lived on the family farm most of her life. She attended Valley Chapel country school, and graduated from Lisbon High School. Christine obtained her teaching certificate from Cedar Falls State Teachers College. She married Alfred Krummel February 28, 1933 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Lisbon. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Societies. Christine devoted her life to her family, taking care of her parents and brothers when they were ill. She was one of the best cooks in the country, especially known for kolaches, pies, and noodles. Christine's pal and protector on the farm, was her dog, Chuck. She gave us all her love and we will miss her dearly. A memorial fund in Christine's honor has been established.
