Melissa Jordan

Melissa Sue "Missy" Jordan, 20 of Mount Vernon, died unexpectedly Sunday September 19, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Services 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at the Lisbon United Methodist Church, by the Reverend Tom Mattson. Friends may call Wednesday, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m., at the Church. Burial Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery. Surviving Missy are her parents, Ralph and Cathy Jordan of Mount Vernon, a paternal grandmother Connie Walker from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, great grandmother Kathryn Hildebrand of Marion, great grandfather William Walker of Urbandale, several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Also survived by foreign exchange siblings: Eneko Martinez of Spain, Ashley Greene of Australia, and two special dogs: Diamond and Spot. Missy was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents: Everett and Lorene Jordan, and maternal grandparents: James Walker and Sue Laing. Missy was born November 26, 1983 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Ralph and Cathy Walker Jordan. Missy graduated from Lisbon High School in 2002, and was attending the Transition Center School, Cedar Rapids. She was a member of the Lisbon United Methodist Church family; and delighted in the Sunday school classes and events. Missy enjoyed volunteering her time with the Lisbon Sauerkraut Committee. She worked at the Lisbon Early Childhood Care and Education Center. Missy loved participating in the Special Olympics, especially basketball, bocce ball, and bowling. She traveled with Camp Courageous on trips to California and St. Louis, and attended their summer camps. Missy was a great sports fan, rooting for local sports, especially the Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and Rough Riders Hockey Team. She looked forward to the annual Jordan pumpkin harvest and all the special guests who came her way. Time spent in the combine with her Dad, was best of all. Missy enjoyed life. She never wanted to miss any part of it. She taught us all how to love life to the fullest. In lieu of plants and flowers, a memorial fund in Missy's honor has been established.
