Clifford Baack

Clifford G. Baack, 75, a resident of 21 Butcher Road, Martelle, lost his seventeen-year battle with cancer on August 2, 2004 at Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Clifford was born the son of Dietrich and Emma Kummer Baack on October 29, 1928 near Homestead, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Freda Jane Warrick in 1956. She died in 1997. Clifford served with B Battery 24th Anti-aircraft Artillery Battalion, U.S. Army, in Pusan, South Korea during the Korean War as a radar operator. He farmed an acreage near Martelle, and worked as a truck driver for Walnut Grove Division of W. R. Grace from 1967 until 1992. Clifford was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Mt. Vernon. Survivors include: a son Craig Baack of Coralville; a daughter Lorraine (John) Travis, and two grandchildren, Steven and Leah Travis, all of Cedar Rapids; a brother Orville of Williamsburg; 3 sisters-in-law: Dorothy Baack of Williamsburg, Joann Baack of Cedar Rapids, and Leora Warrick of Marion. He was preceded in death by his wife Freda, a brother Ivan, and an infant sister Verda. Visitation will be at Morgan Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon on Thursday, August 5, from 4 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mt.Vernon on Friday, August 6, at 10:30 a.m., by the Reverend Mark Gefallar. Interment will be at the Lisbon Cemetery.
