Shirley Lowe Loomis DuRos, 70 of Mount Vernon, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids from complications of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Ceremony of Remembering, 4:00 p.m., Saturday at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel where the family will greet friends from 3:00 p.m. until the Remembering begins. Private family burial Saturday at Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery. Shirley is survived by her daughters: Sharren Loomis-Hawtrey from Mount Vernon, and Karren and her husband Jim Gibson from Woodward; six grandchildren: Spencer, Madison, Darby, Brody, Brittany, and Darren; four step grandchildren: Adrienne, Elle, Bailey, and Beth; one step great grandson Kainen; and her mother Kathryn Wolrab Rummells of Mount Vernon. She is also survived by three sisters: Janice Majors, Karlene Groth, and Sharen McCormick; a brother Ronald Shebetka; a very special aunt Ruth Draper; and a dear friend, Shirley's first husband Dean Loomis. Preceding Shirley in death were her father; her husband Leslie "Red" DuRos; a son Darren; a grandson Barry and grandmother Elizabeth "Bubbie" Ciha Wolrab. Shirley was born January 27, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Carl and Kathryn Wolrab Lowe. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1953, and married Dean Loomis in 1956. They were divorced. She married "Red" DuRos, in 1980. He died in 1985. Shirley loved people. She was a mainstay on Main Street Mount Vernon, working many years at Robert's Photo, Shutt's Pharmancy, Stoll's Ben Franklin, Lighthall's Variety Store, and Peggy Sue's Diner where she was a manager.
