Howard W. Gollobit

January 15, 1934 ~ October 25, 2005

Howard W. "Slim" Gollobit Sr., 71, died in his Lisbon home, Tuesday, October 25, 2005, from a long illness. Services, 10:30 Friday, in the Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel by the Reverend Cecil Ballard. Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday in the Chapel. Burial in Lisbon Cemetery. Surviving Howard is his wife Doris at home, two sons: Howard and Diana of West Branch; Steve and Sandy of Mount Vernon; five grandchildren: Gabriel, Elizabeth, Jackie, Rebecca, and Kelsey; a great grandson: Sammy; two brothers: Jerry of Lisbon and Donnie of Bellvue, Florida. Preceding Howard in death were his parents, a daughter Sherri Kamerling, and a sister Betty Piazza. Slim was born January 15, 1934, at Wanaque, New Jersey, the son of Sylverious and Ruth Bishop Gollobit. Traveling through Iowa in 1954, he met and fell in love with Doris Pospisil. They married December 1, 1955, at Rock Island. He worked forty years as an Iron Worker and was a member of Iron Workers Local #89 of Cedar Rapids. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church of Marion. Slim enjoyed his life. His passions were his family, hunting, fishing and trapping. He enjoyed gardening and was a great cook.   2. My sister sent me the obituary. We thought we may be related. My mother was a Gollobit, Mary Gollobit Johnson. She was the daughter of Jacob and Libbie Gollobit. Jacob and Anna Gollobit, his parent’s came from Austria. My mother lives in Iowa.
