Marian M. Sutliff, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, April 18, 2006, in Westridge Care Center from a stroke. Services, 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel by the Reverend Jim Roberts. The family will greet friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery. Surviving Marian are a sister Jessie Crozier of Cedar Rapids; five nieces: Elaine Seber of Cedar Rapids, Bonnie June Young of Marion, Phyllis Brack of Iowa City, Ramona Tuttle of Urbana, and Linda Keyes of Davenport; three nephews: John Briggs of Volga, George "Dick" Briggs of Lisbon, and Jerry Crozier of Fairfax. She was preceded in death by her husband Benn, and four sisters: Carrie Briggs, Lucille Briggs, Bessie Petrusch, and Susie Bogaard, and one brother John Ford. Marian was born January 20, 1917, at Aten, Nebraska, the daughter of Joe and Evelyn Sage Ford. She graduated from Lisbon High School, and married Benn Sutliff November 1, 1936 in Galena, Illinois. He died in 1984. The couple moved to Englewood, California in 1952. Marian worked as a customer operations representative for the Pacific Telephone Company there for twenty years, retiring in 1977. She returned to Lisbon in 1984, and returned to Yucaipa, California in 1991. In 1999, Marian moved to Cedar Rapids to live with her niece Elaine. She was a very active member of the Order of Eastern Star in Yucaipa and Hawthorne, California. She was a 50 year member and held offices including Worthy Matron and Deputy Grand Matron. Marian was a member of the First Federated Church in Lisbon. Marian was a generous lady who always came to the rescue whenever anyone needed help.
