Chester M. "Chet" Wallace, 92, of Mount Vernon died Thursday, May 25, 2006 in Hallmark Care and Rehabilitation Center, Mount Vernon, following a brief illness. Services: 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 28, at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel. Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m., at the chapel. Graveside services: 10:00 a.m., Tuesday at Clark Cemetery, rural Winterset Surviving Chet is his wife, Helen, two sons, Victor (Dee) of Jackson, Tennessee, Jim (Jackie) of Mount Vernon, daughter, Gayle Ann Wallace of Mount Vernon; five grandchildren, Mike, Mark, Amy, Joel, Jamie; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and William; stepson, Philip Macumber of Winterset; and brother, Russell of California. Preceding Chet in death were his parents, wife Mary, and a brother Vic. Chet was born March 19, 1914 in Macksburg, Iowa, the oldest son of L. Guy and Hazel S. Trautwein Wallace. He graduated from Winterset High School and Simpson College. In 1936, Chet began a long teaching and coaching career at Jewell, Troy Mills, Glidden, Corydon, Lorimor, Mount Vernon, and Lisbon. He married Mary Elizabeth Callison May 2, 1942. Mary Elizabeth died November 28, 1976. Chet married Helen Leander Macumber on November 9, 1980. After his retirement from education, he continued to build homes in Mount Vernon with his son, Jim. Memorials in Chet's name may be made to the Lisbon-Mount Vernon Volunteer Ambulance Fund, P.O.
