Ferne was born December 8, 1925, on her family's homesteaded farm near Olin, the daughter of Samuel "U.S." and Myrtle Jackson Farrington. She attended Evergreen country school and graduated valedictorian from Mechancisville High School in 1943. She married Chester Eales on January 1, 1947 in Marion. Ferne's whole life was spent on the various farms the couple farmed in Cedar County. Active in the churches the couple attended, Ferne was involved with children's ministries, Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School, and various other church committees. Most recently, she was a member of the Spirit of Faith Family Church in Cedar Rapids. Because of her faith, Ferne generously gave of herself to serve family, friends, and others in need. She was an avid gardener, loved to read, assemble jigsaw puzzles, square dance, sew, crochet, and preserve fruits and vegetables. Ferne loved to travel, especially Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri during the winter, and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ferne's honor may be made to the Spirit of Faith Family Church, 4070 22nd Avenue S. W., Cedar Rapids, IA 52404. On-line condolences: www.morganfuneralchoices.com
