Venita Kohl

Venita Louise Meyer Kohl, 84 of Lisbon, died Thursday January 11, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, from complications from a stroke. Services 10:30 a.m., Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Mount Vernon by the Reverend Mark Gefaller. Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m., at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel. Private family burial will be in the Union Cemetery rural Lisbon. Venita is survived by four children: Larry (Diane) and Kenneth (Joan) of Lisbon, Kathy Beck of Mechanicsville and Linda (Mark) Runkle of Cedar Rapids, three sister-in-laws: Carmel Meyer of Mount Vernon, Elizabeth Lehr of Lisbon, and Pat Meyer of Cedar Rapids, nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Venita was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, an infant sister Irene, three brothers Fredrick, Lester, and Harold (Darlene) Meyer, a sister Bernice (Leonard) Schaefer, and a brother-in-law Glenn Lehr. Venita was born November 19, 1922 on a farm in Red Oak Township (Cedar County), the daughter of Fred C. and Anna Sophia Meier Meyer. She graduated from Stanwood High School. Venita was baptized, confirmed, and married in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stanwood. She married John Henry Kohl, October 10, 1943 and lived on the Kohl Family Farm until moving to Tipton, in July of 2006. Venita was a homemaker who was active in 4-H work. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. Her greatest joy came from watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports and school activities. The family would like to thank Prairie Hills Assisted Living, Tipton, for providing excellent care the past six months. A memorial fund in honor of Venita may be sent to: The Venita Kohl Memorial Fund, 14-122nd Street, Lisbon, IA 52253. The family will donate the memorials to the Mercy Foundation, Hospice House.
