Quentin Robinson

Quentin Riley "Jink" Robinson, 83 of Mechanicsville, died Thursday November 22, 2007 in Mercy Medical Center Cedar Rapids from a heart attack. Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m., Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mechanicsville. Friends may call Sunday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville. Quentin is survived by four children: Larry (Pam) of Mechanicsville, Marilyn (Doug) Jones of Cedar Rapids, Bill (Deb) of Mason City, and Linda (Phil) Brade, of West Liberty, eight grandchildren: Yvonne, Wesley, Jodi, Todd, Brent, Erin, Jeremy and Kira, and seven great grandchildren. Quentin is also survived by his brothers and sister: Gorman (Faye) of Mechanicville, Corrine Betcher of Davenport, Narvis of Anamosa, Victor (Mary Jean) of Mechanicsville, Casper (Gerry) of Anamosa and Calvin (Frances) of Mechanicsville. Preceding Quentin in death were his parents, William and Edith Ilsely Robinson, his wife Dorothy, brother-in-law Marvin Betcher and a sister-in-law Genvieve Robinson. Quentin was born on the family's Century farm December 16, 1923, attended Hazel Hill country school and graduated from Mechanicsville High School in 1940. He began farming immediately after graduation with his brothers. Quentin met his wife Dorothy Zinkula at Hy-Way Gardens in Stanwood, and they were married August 9, 1945 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in rural Solon. He and Dorothy farmed and raised their family north of Mechanicsville. They moved to town in 1977, remaining active in farming for many years. Quentin was active in the community and his church, serving as President of the St. Mary's building committee. He served eighteen years on the church council and was president for six years. Quentin was an original board member for Pioneer Terrace Housing where he served for sixteen years. He served for many years on the Cedar County F.H.A. board, and was a member of Farm Bureau, Martelle Co-op, and Clarence Co-op. Quentin was a member of the Mechanicsville Lions club for thirty-six years. A memorial in Quentin's honor may be made to the Mechanicsville Volunteer Ambulance.
